Bellman är en av Sveriges största och mest folkkära diktare genom tiderna. Det finns knappast någon svensk som inte känner till Bellman, och de flesta har någon gång sjungit någon av hans visor.

Barnen sjunger “Gubben Noak” och på fester hör man ofta “Måltidssång”.

Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795) växte upp i Stockholm och bodde där hela sitt liv och hans visor handlar om olika miljöer där hela sitt liv och hans visor handlar om olika miljöer därifrån. Texterna kan skildra det glada livet på Stockholms krogar eller beskriva hur det är att ligga berusad på gatan och hur det känns dagen efter en glad fest som i t.ex. “Ack du min moder”.

Hans skildringar av en tidig morgon i hamnen precis när staden vaknar, en frukost i det gröna med vin och kvinnor och det myllrande gatulivet är så målande att man tycker att man själv är närvarande. I hans visor finner man också lyriska naturskildringar som i “Fjäriln vingad”. Personerna som förekommer i hans texter sägs alla ha funnits i verkligheten.

När kung Gustav III fick höra några sånger, där Bellman hyllade kungen, engagerade han honom som underhållare vid hovet. Bellman hade visserligen aldrig någon anställning vid hovet, men han fick ändå en sorts årlig ersättning från kungen. Trots kungens uppskattning och visornas popularitet hade Bellman ekonomiska problem under hela livet, och när han dog 1795 lämnade han en familj i stor fattigdom.

Det finns mer än 1700 efterlämnade texter av Bellman, men det är de 82 visorna i Fredmans epistlar och visorna i Fredmans sånger som är mest älskade. Bellman är i dag också mycket populär i bland annat England och Danmark.

Tendo em conta que muitos colegas professores não conseguem regressar à China, achei interessante partilhar os cursos de coreano online. Relembro que tal como os de irlandês anteriormente publicado por mim, estes cursos online também são gratuitos. Obter os certificados tem um custo mas isso, deixo ao critério de cada um.

Os professores em missão além fronteiras, sobretudo os de inglês, encontrarão mais facilmente trabalho se souberem o básico de coreano, outros poderão fazer pesquisa online, preparar uma viagem futura, fazer um intercâmbio de línguas ou qualquer outra que seja a motivação.

Na minha humilde opinião, chegar a um país e saber algumas palavras essenciais, (magical keywords!) pode ajudar e saber dizer algumas frases mostra interesse e respeito pelo povo.

Todos os meus colegas relembram a Coreia do Sul com saudade e como um país civilizadíssimo, fascinante e de chorar por mais! Eu, relembro os apenas todos os amigos maravilhosos de Seul.

Enquanto estive fora de Portugal, onde pretendo continuar, senti muita falta de falar português e estava notoriamente a esquecer a minha própria língua, daí tentar escrever em português. Para além do mais, e tendo em conta que mais de metade do que é escrito e acessível no Google nos aparece em inglês não me faz muito sentido escrever numa língua que não a minha.  Em África não nos faltam nativos da língua portuguesa assim como no Brasil e também nós precisamos de oportunidades de trabalho. 

3) Curso de introdução à Filosofia coreana pela Universidade Sungkyunkwan (SKKU) na Coreia do Sul: conheça a filosofia coreana ao mergulhar na história e cultura coreanas.

Trabalhei na China, aprendi um pouco de chinês mas infelizmente o governo chinês não nos permite o regresso. Assim sendo vamos mudar a rota e seguir vida, com espírito de equipe e desportivismo. E aos que tal como eu, ainda pensem participar nos Jogos Olímpicos em Tóquio, as candidaturas para voluntários já terminaram há muito mas ainda podemos comprar bilhetes e quiçá, dar uma voltinha pelo Japão. De Seul a Tóquio a viagem dura menos de duas horas e são em conta!

4) Curso de alfabeto coreano e introdução ao Hangeul oferecido pela Universidade de Sungkyunkwan (SKKU), onde podemos descobrir e aprender este sistema de escrita da Coreia, que remonta ao século XV. 

5) A app Duolingo oferece coreano.

Esta app hei-de recomenda-la sempre porque aprendi muito nela. A única língua em que não consegui progredir foi em chinês. Passava o tempo a baralhar a máquina!

6) Para coreano a app LingoDeer é apreciada por muitos e funcional.

7) Para todos aqueles que já conheçam o alfabeto Hangeul, a Class Central começou no passado dia 3 de Agosto um curso para desenvolver a fala e tem boas classificações atribuídas por quem já o experimentou. Caso lhe convenha, a Class Central também oferece sistema de afiliados, onde poderá, eventualmente, ganhar comissão através do seu website, ou de outras formas que lhe sejam mais oportunas. Neste blog, não lhe estou a vender rigorosamente nada.

8) O sétimo evento sobre a Coreia online já começou. Aqui encontrará 5 segredos infalíveis para aprender coreano e creio que vallha a pena espreitar! Não estou certa de que seja gratuito mas apreciei a continuidade nos eventos, por ser organizado por pessoas experientes, no Brasil e por estar a decorrer.

9) Á semelhança da Babbel (a minha app de línguas estrangeiras preferida), encontrei a LingQ com conteúdos sobre cultura, viagem, tecnologia, ciência, política, gastronomia, entretenimento, desporto, livros e negócios.

10) Por último a Easy Languages, canal do YouTube é uma forma divertiva de explorar a cultura, viajar online pela Coreia e trabalhar a audição.

5 Charities That Offer Postgraduate Funding to Study in The UK

Charities to help your Postgraduate studies in the UK

1. Sir Richard Stapley Education Trust

Open to students from all countries, applicants must be resident in the UK at the time of applying, as well as during their course of study. The Trust supports postgraduate degrees in any subject, as well as courses in medicine or veterinary sciences taken as a second degree. All grants are made annually, and are normally between £500 and £1,500.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for a grant you must be: 

a) I will be over the age of 24 on 1st October 2021

b) I have been accepted (or I am applying for) a place on a degree course in medicine, dentistry or veterinary studies taken as a second degree, or a full- or part-time place on a Masters or Doctoral degree programme in any discipline, at a UK university in the academic year 2021/22

c) I will already be resident in the UK when I apply for the grant 

d) I will remain resident in the UK throughout the course of study

e) I will be facing demonstrable financial need in the academic year 2021/22 (details about how this is calculated are in the application form).

2. The Humanitarian Trust

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria must be met for the Trust to consider a grant:

Students must be studying an academic subject at graduate or postgraduate level

Students must be under 30 years old when they finish their course

Students must have secured the majority of their required income needed for the year – whether this is through student loans, scholarships, university hardship grants, grants from charitable trusts, employment, family contributions or similar. Please indicate what other grants or loans have been applied for.

Students must have a maximum shortfall in required income of £2,000.

Grants can be used for tuition fees or living expenses only.

3. The Wellcome Trust

The Wellcome Trust support thousands of scientists and researchers in more than 70 countries, as well as innovators, educators and artists.

4. Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust

Fellowships and Bursaries

The Bibliographical Society invites applications for awards from scholars engaged in bibliographical research (on, for example, book history, textual transmission, publishing, printing, bookbinding, book-ownership and book-collecting).

Bolsas para pós – graduações em línguas modernas

Se quiser estudar um PGCE no Reino Unido, poderá solicitar um empréstimo de propinas através da ‘Student Finance England‘, não precisando, assim, pagar as propinas do curso antecipadamente. As suas possibilidades financeiras não são verificadas, portanto as suas circunstâncias financeiras não serão levadas em consideração e irrelevantes neste processo. Os estudantes do Reino Unido e da UE / EEE geralmente são elegíveis para este apoio. As bolsas são extra, até 17.000 libra e são a fundo perdido!

As línguas modernas procuradas são, françês, espanhol e alemão mas o chinês e inglês também foram contempladas e para candidatos ao PGCE English as bolsas são de valor inferior.

A necessidade de professores destas três línguas, no Reino Unido, é tão urgente que a eligiblidade para receber a bolsa é tão linear como ser cidadão europeu, da União Europeia, e ter residido na mesma nos três anos imediatamente ao início do curso. Claro está, que tem de preencher os requisitos exigidos por cada uma das instituições.

Ainda há vagas para começar em Setembro de 2020, deve preencher uma candidatura através do portal de educação UCAS. Irlanda do Norte, País de Gales e Inglaterra.

Recomenda-se fazer a candidatura de apoio financeiro nove meses antes mas é possível chegar em último na fila, dois meses antes e conseguir. Se quiser contactar-me, terei gosto em ajudar, naquilo que a minha experiência permite.

Se já tem um lugar assegurado em curso de pós-graduação no Reino Unido, no ano acadêmico de 2020-21, poderá-se candidatar a uma bolsa de estudos de pós-graduação em Postgrad Solutions Study Bursaries. Cada bolsa vale £ 500 e está disponível para estudantes de qualquer lugar do mundo, até Setembro de 2020. É um dos formulários mais simples e rápidos de preencher que já tive acesso. Em menos de 10 minutos, se já tiver o documento escrito em formato Word (200 palavras máximo), pode se inscrever em todas as que apliquem a si. Este ano 15 bolsas vão ser distribuídas e os vencedores serão notificados no dia 31 de Outubro.

11 ferramentas online para melhorar o texto escrito em inglês

Gostaria de começar por frisar (to stress!) que estas ferramentas, que partilho se adequam a todos os mais ou menos criativos que tenham apenas um telemóvel e internet, o que no dias que correm, olhando em redor, não é assim tão pouco.

Dirigo-o a quem queira melhorar a sua habilidade na escrita da língua inglesa. A grande parte, senão todas, foram-me sugeridas pelos meus professores, de cursos vários que fiz online e também por colegas. No total são11 ferramentas online para editar texto em inglês

2 ferramentas para processamento de texto

Eu uso o Google documents e a Evernote.

A maior diferença entre as duas é que, os documentos da Google, não está disponível na China, a menos com acesso por VPN, que é ilegal mas mesmo assim usado.

Outra diferença para a Evernote é que os erros são sublinhados automaticamente, ou porque efectivamente a palavra tem um erro, ou porque gramaticalmente a frase não foi bem estruturada. Claro está que quem se atreva no mundo das traduções amadoras, definir os settings na língua a ser traduzida é fundamental. 

Neste telemóvel chinês que eu uso, nao o posso fazer, porque a língua portuguesa não foi contemplada, por isso uso outras duas apps.

Apresento a Evernote como vantagem aos documentos da Google, porque na China, a Google não é acessível a menos com o uso de um VPN.

2 websites para traduções de português para inglês

Os meus preferidos são o Google Translate  e a English Cambridge Dictionary. O tradutor da Google pode ser de bastante suporte, sobretudo se o conseguirmos verificar em três línguas. Sei que não é preciso mas usei esta técnica quando fiz o meu primeiro curso de irlandês e funcionou conseguindo sempre estabelecer contacto por mensagem de texto e obtendo resposta.

O Cambridge Dictionary é maravilhoso e quando preciso de traduções mais pequenas, até 160 caracteres funciona muito bem. Também o uso para procurar vocabulário e sinónimos e sempre que tenho dúvida em que contexto se usa a palavra.

Uma ferramenta ideal para encontrar traduzidas algumas expressões populares portuguesas, e a palavra inglesa em contexto.

Pleco offers several characters foreign language options for writing in English, Chinese, PinYin, Japanese, Russian, Pinyin, Greek, and Latin. You only need to install the app on your iOS or Android mobile phone. It’s also free.

Pleco was useful while living in China and learning writing PinYin on the first two levels of Chinese as it was to write in Portuguese. My English and Dutch friends in Portugal had never heard of it but it makes difference in both languages.

I want to translate from English to Portuguese

At last, I’d like to mention the Cambridge English Dictionary, one more helpful online tool that I’ve been using for many years, and allows all my English and Dutch friends residents in Portugal to search for vocabulary. It’s a great tool to look for translating a sentence up to 160 characters, enough for writing an email in Portuguese and very accurate.

Learning a foreign language is funny, it can help while travelling and make friends, when we experience other countries’cultures. Life skills are essential, too!
